A
Program of Excellence
Founded in 1993 by Tini Miura, Einen Miura and Daniel Tucker, the American Academy of Bookbinding is an internationally known degree-oriented bookbinding program that offers book enthusiasts of all levels the opportunity to broaden their skills under the direction of world-class master bookbinders. The American Academy of Bookbinding holds intensive courses in the fine art
of leather binding and related subjects. The goal of the Academy
is to graduate professional binders who have the knowledge and skills
to produce the finest leather bindings of the highest quality and
to pass on these skills to the next generation.
Classes are
held in two locations: Telluride,
Colorado and Ann Arbor,
Michigan. The Telluride classes take place primarily during
spring and early summer and the Ann Arbor classes take place during
late winter and fall. Classes are one-to-two weeks long, meeting
from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in professional bookbinding studios. Students
have access to the studios 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Most students work well beyond 5 p.m. due to the intensity of these courses.
Because classes
are limited in size, students must apply to the Academy for acceptance
into the program. Please see the AAB
Info page for more information on application, acceptance and
other logistics of attending the American Academy of Bookbinding.
