Landscapes in Oil   |  Expressing Yourself with Confidence with Barbara Churchley
June 16 & 17 |  Saturday - Sunday   |  $250   |  All levels
Do you want to paint outdoors - en plein air - but just aren’t sure where to start? In this workshop, we’ll start with deciphering the landscape from our photo references. We will learn to compose a strong painting from the abundant scenes nature provides us. We will cover the essentials for exciting paintings, using the vocabulary of line, shape, value, color, texture and edges. This fun workshop will build a strong foundation for you to venture out into your favorite places and capture them on the canvas. This workshop is open to all levels of oil painters. The instructor will provide photo references for you to work from, or you may bring your own.

Plein Air Landscape Painting with Jeanne Mackenzie
June 25 - 28 |  Monday - Thursday |  $450
This workshop will teach students to add light and life into their landscapes by emphasizing how to get correct tone and color, giving clout to the composition and making color-mixing fun. This workshop will help the student to ‘loosen-up’ outdoors and see the big picture instead of the little detail. There will be plenty of demos and personal attention. This is a great class for students of all levels. Artists will need their own plein air easel and equipment.

Painting the Luminous Landscape with Deborah Paris
July 7 - 11 |  Saturday - Wednesday | 10am- 4pm |  $595
In the workshop we will focus on creating atmosphere, depth and glowing light in your landscapes, with an emphasis on atmospheric effects, particularly during the hours of dawn, sunset, dusk and evening. Learn how to incorporate indirect painting techniques like glazes, scumbles and velaturas to achieve soft luminous light and optical effects which can be obtained in no other way. This studio workshop will introduce students to the Tonalist landscape aesthetic and techniques. Tonalism, a distinct style of landscape painting which developed in the late 19th century, is experiencing a resurgence of interest today. It is characterized by simple design, a narrow range of values, and a limited but luminous palette. Daily demonstrations and lectures, field sketching, one on one help at your easel, presentation and discussion of the works of past masters, and an extensive Class Notebook chock full of information and resources make this workshop a rich and rewarding experience.
