SEEING THE LANDSCAPE
A Summer Painting Intensive
Friday – Sunday | 10:00am – 4:00pm | $400
June 29 – July 1, 2018
(Students must bring required materials on their own.)
An indoor/outdoor workshop for bringing the outdoors inside with paint.
It all starts with the landscape. Join veteran New York artist Gregory Botts for an outdoor (plein air) painting intensive. Each morning, students will head outside with sketchbooks, paints and canvas in hand to capture not just the images but the ideas of the Telluride landscape.
Back in the studio for the second half of each day, students will review their plain air experience and pieces, and learn how to engage their imaginations when bringing the outdoors inside through their paintings. Through an examination of the landscape techniques and styles of various renowned artists and movements, students will learn how to create their own versions of reality through their work. Art history, drawing and painting will mix, developing conversation, merging content and exploring a new poetry that we can take back into our studios to create unique narratives or stories of how we see and what we make of make of our world.
Those familiar with plein air oil painting are encouraged to use this medium, however students are not required to paint in oil. Bring a set of materials you are comfortable with, enthusiasm and a desire to progress. Please see the materials list for recommended and required materials.
This is a Visiting Artist class, therefore cancellations must be made at least 45 days in advance in order to qualify for a refund (less a $25 administrative fee).
