Together, we’ll look at the traditions and parameters of picture books – from language and length, to audience and intent – and become inspired to dive into manuscripts of our very own.

Picture books introduce children to story and to literacy. They’re also an undeniable pleasure – offering up humor, tenderness, music and love. Together, we’ll look at the traditions and parameters of this enchanting form – from language and length, to audience and intent. Through reading and writing exercises, we’ll deepen our love for picture books – and become inspired to dive into manuscripts of our very own. (Open to anyone interested in writing for young people. You need not be a visual artist to take this class but author-illustrators are welcome.)

STUDENT REQUIREMENTS: Students should bring pens and paper and, if they like writing/composing on a keyboard instead, a laptop.
