    SKATE & ART P.E.

Telluride Figure Skating & Ah Haa School for the Arts have teamed up to offer an alternative to Ski P.E.

Instead of spending the day on the slopes, kids spend mornings learning the fundamentals of figure skating and hockey in Town Park, and the remainder of the day creating a variety of fun art projects at the Ah Haa School. The program is offered to students in grades K-6 and runs January-February.

Ah Haa provides a safe, positive and inspiring environment for children to stretch their imaginations and push their creative boundaries. Using a variety of materials and talented instructors, we aim to provide new experiences that go beyond what might be explored at home or in school. The goal is to foster creativity, confidence and fun!

Telluride Figure Skating Club offers two programs for K-6 Skate and Art PE participants. Their programs are geared toward teaching students the fundamentals of figure skating and hockey skating, while enjoying fun times at Telluride’s Hanley Rink. All ability levels are welcome!

Student Art Opportunities

Students will explore a variety of media, ranging from mixed-media sculpture and ceramics to painting and printmaking. Each class will build upon the one prior, helping kids gain new skills and meaningful experiences.
TO BRING: Please make sure your child comes with comfortable clothing that won’t be harmed by paint or other art media. Also, pack a healthy lunch, snack and beverage each day. Named water bottles are recommended. Those unable to provide lunch for their child may sign up to have Ah Haa provide one for them each week for an additional $45 fee. (Provided lunches are typically peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, apples and chips. Parents are encouraged to provide additional snacks.)
For more information on Ah Haa’s youth art programming, call 970-728-3886.

Student Skate Opportunities

This learn-to-skate program helps students build coordination, strength and balance while learning the fundamentals of forward and backward skating, stops crossovers, tricks and turns. This curriculum follows the USFSA Basic Skills, Snowplow Sam and Basic 8 Skills development progressions. Either figure skates or hockey skates are appropriate. All skates will learn to move faster and be more agile on the ice.
EQUIPMENT NEEDS: Sharpened skates (supplied by school), helmet (highly recommended), winter coat and snow pants, gloves, hat, ski socks (not too thick), snack and water bottle.
Please contact Alysha Patterson if you have any questions regarding skating at 970-237-0332.
