Ah Haa School for the Arts

Tuesday – Monday |  Times vary |  $550
February 22 – March 14, 2022

Class times: Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5pm – 9pm and Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 12pm -6pm

For three weeks, explore the ways to print on fabric with silk screens and other methods. We will use thickened fiber reactive dyes and we will focus on “breakdown” screen printing. Stencils, stamping, painting, shibori bucket dyeing and ice dyeing will also be options. We will build multiple layers of design and color on the fabric. These dyes work on many fabric types – including protein fibers like silk and wool and cellulose fibers like cotton, linen and hemp. Printing over fabric you have previously dyed is an amazing experience. There will be open studio time on the weekends between classes.

Materials fee is $150 and includes 6 yards of cotton fabric, all the dyes and other chemicals needed for 6 yards of fabric. Additional fabric and scarves are available to buy from Kathy.

Students should bring any silk screens that they own, a color wheel and after the first class, they can

bring “items” to be textures on their screens. Also bring a notebook and pen/pencil to take notes.

Given the changing nature of the Delta variant of the Coronavirus, we are now requiring everyone who participates in an Ah Haa class be vaccinated and upload a copy of their vaccination card at the time of registration. Further, masks should be worn in public spaces within the building. Thank you for helping us keep everyone healthy!
