CERAMIC MOLD MAKING WORKSHOP
Saturday – Sunday | 10:00am – 4:00pm | $175
October 16 – 17, 2021
Create an original sun or moon face in clay; then learn how to make a one-piece plaster mold for replicating the piece. In this hands-on workshop with local sculptor, Julie McNair, participants will learn how to create natural draft in a relief form, best practices to mix plaster, and witness a live demo of how to use a press mold. Students will come away with a plaster mold that can be used to make multiples, as well as a finished original piece.
Students will work within a 9 x 9 x 2” area to create a fanciful face in clay and learn how to clean up the clay surfaces. Students will then begin creating the walls around their forms to hold plaster.
In the morning, students will finish building and sealing their mold forms and learn about mold releases. The class will then mix plaster and cast their clay molds. After a lunch break, students will release their clay forms from their molds. Remaining class time will focus on mold clean up and hollowing out the original clay piece. If time permits, students can paint their originals with underglazes.
Given the changing nature of the Delta variant of the Coronavirus, we are now requiring everyone who participates in an Ah Haa class be vaccinated and upload a copy of their vaccination card at the time of registration. Further, masks should be worn in public spaces within the building. Thank you for helping us keep everyone healthy!
