TELLURIDE PAINTING SCHOOL – Observation & Imagination, Reinventing the Landscape of Telluride
Monday – Friday week one, Monday – Wednesday week two
8:30am – 12:30pm | $920
September 23 – October 2, 2019
Students must purchase required materials on their own.
Designed for artists of all levels, this intensive workshop will explore techniques and concepts in oil painting with an emphasis on individual development of style, theme, and expression. Students will work from observation and their imagination. The glorious natural surroundings of Telluride will serve as a perfect vehicle to explore the relationship between nature, the inner feelings of the artist, and metaphorical meaning expressed in landscape painting. Students will discover how a basic image can be transformed into a personal statement through the process of painting and the artist’s imagination.
Students will be encouraged to experiment with a variety of ideas and techniques, with the purpose of developing a personal expression. The principles developed through observational work will lead to exploration into the limitless possibilities of painting, and various approaches to representational and abstract painting will be investigated.
Individual and group critiques and discussions will be held regularly and focus will be given to each individual student in context of the shared experience of the class.
Power point presentations of works from old masters and contemporary artists will be presented to complement studio and landscape projects in classes.
This class meets Monday-Friday during week one and Monday-Wednesday during week two. Students are invited to remain in the studio Thursday-Friday, Oct. 3-4, for uninstructed studio time at no additional charge.
Includes 24-hour access to the painting studio between class sessions, easels/gatorboards, and general studio supplies.
