APOLOGIES, THIS CLASS IS CANCELLED.

Unlock the powers of paint to construct multi-faceted, illustrative worlds. Under the direction of NYC artist Carlo D’Anselmi, students in this two-week intensive will examine the inherent properties of paint as a unique and powerfully expressive tool while learning how to manipulate color to describe figures and objects. Students will develop complex images using color to create depth, exploring how perceived “warm” or “cool” colors can convey space, meaning and emotion, even with a limited palette.

Developing an individualized process of mark making and color application will be explored as students learn to recognize themselves in their work. Further, the class will examine how and why images are compelling – how they grab and hold a viewers interest and compel them to return again and again to discover new meanings.

Carlo D’Anselmi lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He received his MFA in Painting from the New York Studio School and his BA in Classics and Fine Arts from Saint Anselm College. His colorful and investigative work ranges from highly structured figurative paintings to thick, loose abstractions.

This class 24-hour access to the painting studio between class sessions, model fees, easels/gatorboards, and general studio supplies.
