Katie Hadar

Animation / Drawing

Katie grew up in Colorado’s high mountains graduating from Aspen High School in 1996. She immediately bought a one-way ticket to Florence, Italy where she studied traditional darkroom photography, drawing and Italian language. Katie began teaching in 2000 upon her return to the Roaring Fork Valley. She taught Italian and drawing to AHS students and travelers wishing to enhance trips to Europe through language skills.

In 2004 Katie attended Colorado Mesa University and completed her BFA in Graphic Design. She worked in Architecture and Engineering, handling all aspects of design, photography, identity, brand management, proposal submittal and web design for this Small Business focusing on design-build, project management, architectural and engineering on public projects including law enforcement, K-12, public works and hospitals. During her time with this firm, it was recognized nationally for work on the Colorado Bureau of Investigation by the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Zweig-White A&E Excellence in Target Marketing, the Colorado Chapter of AIA and more.

In 2013, Ms. Hadar completed her MFA in Digital Film. Her thesis film, Circle to the Left was featured on the Circuit Festival, a short narrative about young love, garnering an Audience Award nomination from the New Orleans Film Festival in 2014. Katie has worked with National Geographic, Sharp Entertainment, as well as on numerous independent short films, and features with premieres in London, UK, Sundance and syndicated release. Katie loves indie-low-no the best!

Ms. Hadar has been teaching summer camps to young people for the past 4 years. She loves it! The energy, imagination and thoroughly surprising story lines keep her on her toes between her University semesters. Ms. Hadar has taught for the University of Montana, Colorado Mesa University and most recently has implemented new classes at the Technical College of the Rockies in Delta, Colorado. Katie teaches in Paonia, Gunnison, Crested Butte, Telluride, Montrose and Delta, Colorado during the summer.

Katie loves animals in a ridiculous way, she has three dogs, two horses, six chickens, two ducks, two geese, one cat and tons of mice on her small farm in Hotchkiss, Colorado. She hates wearing shorts, loves boots, charcoal, junkyards, hot sauce and nonsense.

Animation, film, story and young humans make Katie happy, keep her busy, and rolling in laughter and joy! She is excited to see you in class!

My son¬†loved the class and Katie’s enthusiasm. He came home after class and kept working…in the middle of summer!! She had the students all fired up and he really enjoyed himself.
