Ah Haa School for the Arts

Robert Weatherford

Born in Laredo, Texas in 1951 Robert earned a Masters in Systematic Theology at Union Seminary (NY) in 1986. This was followed by a Masters in Painting at Claremont Graduate Art School in Claremont CA. He moved to Telluride in 1977. He was commissioned by the Sierra Club Books to create seventeen paintings for a children’s book entitled Desert Dog, released in Fall 2001. Weatherford  resides in Telluride, Colorado painting and teaching at the Ah Haa School for the Arts where he also serves on the Board of Directors. Robert teaches adult painting classes throughout the year and is the director of the Telluride Painting School.

Robert is such a gifted instructor. Between his presence and skills, sharing and the camaraderie shared with other students, and what I found within myself, the experience was awesome. A surprise, and I can only describe it as spiritual, a term I don’t use often.

Robert gives me an “aha” moment every day. He is an amazing teacher and brings me to Ah Haa often.

Robert guides you gently but firmly through the creative process.

Robert’s spirit is huge and encourages us as we hit walls in our work, which translates into so many life areas.  There were six of us in the class that I attended, Wednesday – Thursday and our styles and experience levels were all over the map.  It was so helpful to be with others wanting to pull their influences forward from within.  Robert finds a place for all that we bring and he scouts our work for what more could be present.  A unique experience that I hope to be able to participate in again next year!
