Born in Beijing, China, Ying Li graduated from Anhui Teachers University (1974-77) where she taught 1977-83. She immigrated to the United States in 1983 and received an MFA from Parsons School of Design, NY in 1987. Ying Li is a painter and Professor of Fine Arts at Haverford College. She is known for her highly energetic, on-site landscapes that verge on pure abstraction, yet simultaneously are totally convincing as direct visual experience. Her uncompromising sense of personal vision combined with complete abandon in the possibilities of paint make her work style the epitome of painterliness. Ying Li lives and works in New York City and Haverford, PA.
Ling was kind of the perfect package deal. She knows how to teach and is a great artist. I think that is difficult to find. It’s obvious that she lives and breaths painting. She was a task master, yet gracious to different levels of student ability.
