Don Etherington
Don Etherington is the Director of the Book Conservation Program at the American Academy of Bookbinding. Nationally and internationally recognized for innovative design and implementation of state-of-the-art conservation procedures, including phased preservation programs for libraries and institutions, Don brings over 45 years of professional experience to the AAB. After extensive training in England, he established a four-year program in bookbinding and design at Southampton College of Art and conducted workshops and seminars for colleges, universities and the Guild of Bookworkers. President of the Etherington Conservation Center in Greensboro, N.C., Don also holds the position of Fellow in both the American Institute for Conservation and the International Institute for Conservation. Other professional affiliations include the Guild of Bookworkers (Past chairman, Standards Committee); Accredited Fellow, Institute of Paper Conservation in England; and member of the American Library Association.

Timothy C. Ely
Timothy C. Ely is an artist living in Colfax, WA, formerly in Portland, OR and New York City. He makes unique manuscript books that are lavishly painted and drawn visual narratives, often including maps, cribriform writing, odd arcana, and are about such topics as natural sciences, mathematics, architecture, and sacred geometry. He is influenced by comic books, Steam Punk design and the study of history, religion, and sociological and psychological phenomena. The works often include soil, sand, and other detritus from pertinent sites around the globe, metals, pigments, textiles, inks, resins, and wax. In addition to these works, he is a printmaker and develops 21st century bookbinding tools and equipment such as the Planetary Collage Dreadnaught and Scout sewing frames. Magnito box building blocks, a nipping press, and a finishing press are currently in the works. His work is in library special collections and private collections worldwide.

Laura Wait
Laura Wait lives in Steamboat Springs and divides her time between the creation of one-of-a-kind artist books and encaustic painting. Words as image play an important part in her work, acting as pattern, texture, and content. She incorporates diverse media into unique artist books, including prints, which are often cut up and reformatted into parts of books and act as inspiration for paintings and prints. Her experience as a bookbinder and conservator for 20 years is the basis for her precise bookbinding technique in the English tradition, including leather fine bindings and medieval style modern wood binding. She holds a degree in Art History from Barnard College, Columbia University, NY, and certificates in Printmaking and Bookbinding from Croydon College of Art, England. She teaches book art workshops throughout the country, and exhibits her art widely. Her artist books are in private and public collections worldwide.

Gail Rieke
Gail Rieke is an internationally recognized collage/ assemblage/ installation artist and teacher who lives and works in Santa Fe, New Mexico with her husband, painter Zachariah Rieke. Gail shows her work at her home/ studio/ gallery by appointment as well as at museums, galleries, and art centers. Gail received her B.F.A. and M.F.A. from University of Florida at Gainesville. Her artwork is represented many private collections as well as in the permanent collections of museums and institutions including the New Mexico Museum of Art, the Albuquerque Museum, the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Nebraska, Roswell Museum, and the Santa Fe Institute. Gail has taught at the University level as well as at Penland, Haystack, and Split Rock. She has lectured extensively both in the U.S. and abroad.
