photography prize 2013 telluride portraits

photography prize 2013

The Ah Haa School for the Arts is excited to announce
its first annual juried Ah Haa Photography Prize.

The subject of the 2013 Prize is Telluride Portraits. The entry deadline is June 14, 2013. Portraits will be chosen for an exhibition that will open in the Daniel Tucker Gallery at the Depot on Aug. 1, and remain on display through September 2013.

The inspiration for this show is “Capturing the essence of Telluride through portraits of its people.” Participating photographers may be local residents, visitors, kids, students, amateurs and professionals alike. The portrait subjects may be anyone—locals or visitors—as long as the setting is a location within an hour’s drive of Telluride. Photographs must also have been taken within the past five years.

A jury will select up to 20 of the submitted portraits for the exhibition. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place photographers; $1,000, $500 and $250 respectively. The first place winner’s portrait will be printed, framed and auctioned off during the annual Ah Haa Art Auction, Friday, July 19, 2013. All proceeds from that sale will go to the Ah Haa School and its programs. Prints of the winning portrait will be sold during the Photography Prize exhibition.

At its own expense, the Ah Haa School will print and frame each portrait selected for the exhibition, and all Photography Prize photographers will receive a framed copy of their entry. The exhibition will open August 1, 2013, and will close September 2013, following the Telluride Film Festival. Ah Haa will split the proceeds from each sale of artwork with the photographer.
