telluride regional artists
Alacran Woodworks: Alacran Woodworks, owned and operated by brothers Brandon and Justin Bain, specializes in the design and construction of custom, freestanding furniture. Using hand tools, old-fashioned joinery and the finest American Hardwoods, the Bain brothers build heirloom quality furniture pieces to be used and enjoyed for generations. Their style, centered around the mining history of the San Juan Mountains, also incorporates the simple strength of Japanese joinery with the visible structure of Arts and Crafts era designs.
Bruce Gomez: All of Bruce’s work are done in pastel, a medium in which he is entirely self-taught. His paintings reflect extensive travels throughout the western United States but most specifically through Telluride and the surrounding San Juan Mountains. His other works show his tours from London, Paris to southern France, the Tuscany…thence to Rome! (Charlton Heston voice) Although a Denver painter his works can be found throughout the world and his formal representation lies with his dear friends at the Abend Gallery in Denver and with the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art in Telluride.
Jim Woodham: Digital photography. The natural beauty of Southwestern Colorado is so striking it makes you want to share it with the rest of the world. Living in this area exposes one daily to the most inspiring scenery you will ever encounter. Only in the last few years has digital photography advanced to the point that it is possible to approximate what the eyes can enjoy and transfer this visual beauty to media.
Julie McNair: Julie’s clay sculptures are personal and work as a gateway for her own growth and may speak to others in a completely different way. Most of the subject matter pertains to transformation of the human spirit and one’s internal reality.
Lisa Issenberg: Lisa Issenberg has specialized in innovative, custom metalwork, creating unique, three-dimensional functional pieces. Her work ranges from delicate, detailed jewelry to large-scale architectural installations, all of which originate in the Issenberg Design studio in southwestern Colorado.
Matt Downer Designs: Painstakingly crafted woodwork by attentive eyes and practiced hands, every piece he makes is worked so as to bring life back to the wood that once grew as a beautiful tree.
Rita Bernstein: One-of-a-kind, hand-dyed silk artworks.
Ron Patterson: Contemporary acrylic painter based in Telluride and Santa Fe. Ron paints large canvases with a variety of subjects from people in love to animals at play in a colorful, expressive style.
Susie Billings: Favoring a bright, warm palette Billings incorporates a range of mediums in her work - watercolors are painted onto japanese rice papers to create an underlying image. Then pastels, charcoal, papers, ink and gold leaf are applied to develop depth and create transparent layers. Billings’ final images are ultimately simple, yet complex compositions. “Billings uses color to create a subtle yet definite spirit. Her paintings leave viewers with a sense of optimism about life.”
