At Ah Haa, we believe that arts programs are not “extras” but are integral to each child’s development - and to a vibrant community. Very few fine arts activities are available in the region outside of the Ah Haa School. Our classes give students the opportunity to pursue their artistic interests. In addition, community discussions have revealed that, while opportunities abound for sports and outdoor recreation in our region, there is a need for programming that provides alternatives to skiing and other more active recreation, both after school and during vacation times. The Ah Haa School is also meeting the community’s need for affordable programs. Participation in the arts opens up a child’s world and mind, instills self-confidence, gives them creative ways of expressing feelings and opinions, and teaches them many transferable skills. Our intent is to increase the time children spend working creatively and to nurture their innate sense of imagination and help them develop innovative ways to express themselves. Our classes and programs from jewelry making to painting to making birdhouses to combining art and science with the Pinhead Institute allows kids to work with mediums they might not encounter at home.
