Within the mission of the Ah Haa School, we seek to provide opportunities to artists of all ages and backgrounds to grow as artists, work in collaboration and show and sell artwork. We have two indoor exhibition spaces, the Daniel Tucker Gallery and East Room Gallery, as well as a large deck on the river that is prime for exhibiting outdoor sculpture. Ah Haa’s galleries display the works of both developing and established artists, local artists and inspiring artists outside of our community.

Artists are selected by invitation, through specific calls for entry and through juried applications. Please see the links to the right to download our policies and an application. The Ah Haa School has attracted many prominent artists and art professionals who have served as instructors and visiting artists; among them, Julie McNair, Meredith Nemirov, Ron Patterson and more.

I work with the figure because of the universal connection and understanding that everyone feels toward it. As my work has progressed it has become more surreal and abstract. This direction has made it possible for me to manipulate the figure into more of an emotion, more of an idea. My work is tied together by a surreal abstraction that gives it a feeling of the fantastic. The breaking down of the pieces is the emotional bond between them.

What makes us euphoric or captivated about a sunset, a waterfall or the way shadows fall on a road, a building or a mountain range? I am not interested in copying the subject but capturing the essence of the moment. It is a dialogue between the subject and myself. Choosing the colors that best represent the subject and choosing the spot to put the paint on the media can recreate that excitement when it is part of a meditative or dream state. On occasion a painting could border on the abstract with the simplification process.
